Ireland Announces Zero VAT on Solar Panel Installs

Exciting news for homeowners across Ireland!

Minister Eamonn Ryan has announced that, from 1 May 2023, a zero rate of VAT will be applied to the supply and installation of solar panels for private dwellings. This means that our customers will be able to benefit from a significant reduction in VAT when they invest in solar panels for their homes, resulting in a 13.5% discount on installations.

This change has been made possible due to amendments made to Annex III of the VAT Directive in 2022, which added a number of new categories to which Member States can apply a zero or reduced rate of VAT. One such option is to apply a zero rate within category 10c which is for the ‘Supply and installation of solar panels on and adjacent to public and other buildings used for activities in the public interest, housing and private dwellings’.

But that’s not all. Customers with properties built and occupied before 2021 remain eligible for the SEAI Solar PV grant scheme, which offers a maximum grant amount of €2,400 for the installation of a solar panel system. This is a fantastic opportunity for homeowners to reduce the upfront cost of their investment in renewable energy.

In addition, micro-generators will also benefit from feed-in tariffs offered by electricity suppliers for any excess energy that is sent back to the grid. This means that homeowners can earn credit for any surplus energy that their solar panels generate.

At Solar Generation, we are committed to helping our customers take advantage of these incentives and benefits. Our team of experts are knowledgeable about the SEAI Solar PV grant scheme and can guide homeowners through the application process. We can also provide information about the feed-in tariff rates offered by electricity suppliers in Ireland and help homeowners select the best option for their needs.

We believe that this combination of incentives and benefits makes investing in solar panels an excellent choice for homeowners who want to reduce their carbon footprint and save money in the long run. If you are interested in learning more about how you can take advantage of these benefits, please don’t hesitate to contact us.
